Outdoor Classroom

Inspired By Nature To Experiment and Create in The Outdoor Classroom
Discovery, study, invention and meaningful learning extend beyond the classroom walls at Laurel Hill. Every day our students enter into the Laurel Hill School Outdoor Classroom (ODC) where they are inspired by nature to fresh-air explore, experiment, create and reveal something new to think about. This thoroughly enchanting and riveting classroom has the native land as its floor, and the sky as its ceiling. The ODC at LHS has been designed and developed by nationally recognized leaders in outdoor classroom design and certification. Specially trained landscape architects and education specialists helped to fulfill Laurel Hill’s research based plans for broad cross-curriculum enrichment through outdoor education.
Exciting Spaces For Curriculum Connections
Cradled within rich grasses, indigenous trees, student gardens, and varied surfaces, textures and structures, our ODC offers exciting spaces uniquely planned to intensify and integrate experiential learning. Physical and life sciences, mathematics, STEM education, the arts, nature, and even farming disclose their natural connections and relationships in the ODC. It’s also a place filled with sunshine, smiles and easy moments to remember and remember!
Expanding The Learning Environment
Our ODC provides a rich context that supports while it enhances grade appropriate objectives in mathematics, science, technology, language arts, gardening, nature, music, art, drama, and literature. Through this expansion of our learning environment, teachers are able to increase hands-on opportunities and better align their curricula to real-world conditions and applications. At the same time, students experience an enhanced appreciation for nature and feel more relaxed, focused, engaged, creative and happier.
