Preschoolers live in a magic time! Adventure is always afoot, and there are great discoveries to be made. The Preschool is a wonderland of opportunity to explore, discover and encounter the world all at arms length, and in the spirit of good fun! Preschoolers develop a remarkable sense of well being, accomplishment and independence at the Laurel Hill School.

Curriculum in
The PreSchool

Boys and girls learn about themselves and the world around them throughout the preschool day. Laurel Hill’s program provides enticing opportunities to make this happen for every boy and girl! (Please note that the curriculum is modified by the program and session selected at application.)

Ready To Read. Through entertaining literature, music, dance, puppetry, and games we learn letter recognition and sound skills. We then put it all together to form words, and more. All skill levels are accommodated at Laurel Hill.
Story World.
Every day we read great tales and the classics with our children. Boys and girls have the opportunity to share their favorites.
Library Links. Literature expands with preschool visits to the Laurel Hill library. Our librarian prepares fun stories and activities while our boys and girls learn more about using the library for fun and learning. Numbers Count. We learn all about numbers, counting, quantity, and more in our fun-to-do and hands-on math program.
Discovery Time. Nature and science to fascinate and ponder. Expeditions and experiments, too, of course!
Computer Magic. In the classroom and in the lab, we explore the fun and creative aspects of computers.
Art Is Me. Every medium is made child ready for our boys and girls to express artistic energy.
Making Music. Singing, dancing, rhythm band, and movement games stir up the fun and enhance our learning each day. Our children enjoy professional music classes given by our preschool music teachers, and as an everyday happy classroom experience.
Gymercise. Exercise and sports for prekindergarten tykes. Preschoolers receive physical education classes in our gym by our physical education staff. Strength and fitness build with all the high-energy fun.
Playtime Fun. Indoors or outdoors in the playground, there’s everything
available for a preschooler to have healthful fun in his/her own way.
Themes & Festivals. Joyous times to celebrate learning and discovery with others. Festival themes are wide ranging and celebrated across the
preschool. Themes & Festivals include Seasons, Holidays, Dental Care, Health and Safety, International Day, and more.
Friendship & Helping Hands. We learn about the needs and feelings of others and how to resolve conflicts in a better way for ourselves and our friends. Caring may mean helping too and we explore the ways it may be done.

Programs & Sessions

The preschool admits boys and girls ages two to five. Three year olds are placed in our nursery program, and four year olds are placed in our prekindergarten program.

A special toddler program is offered for children two to just under three years of age. Classes are formed by age group and careful attention is given to individual needs. Half-time and full-time sessions are available on a two, three, or five day a week basis, with or without bus service.

Staff

Every class in all grades is assigned a teacher and an educational assistant. Teachers at Laurel Hill are all New York State certified in their respective disciplines.

Professional, warm, and caring, our faculty is sensitive to the unique qualities and needs of each child. Teachers and educational assistants possess the vital capacity to guide boys and girls with wisdom, and to regard all children with respect.

Our faculty is engaged in extensive ongoing professional development workshops. Prior to the beginning of each school year The Laurel Hill School provides each staff member with opportunities to investigate and experience a multitude of new strategies, methods, and educational programs to be utilized in their classrooms. Class size is small and the educational setting is based on genuine warmth, affection, and high incentive activities.

The colorful environment is an expression of the energy and imagination of the students and faculty.

Facilities

The Laurel Hill community comes together to work and play on a pristine campus. Our over ten-acre campus provides a natural setting of woods, fields and orchards, all accented by lush floral landscapes. Complete athletic facilities blend with the landscape, and our student garden and farm add an exciting rustic feature to the grounds.

Classrooms are modern, colorful, bright and spacious. The building facilities include a reference and leisure reading library, computer lab, science lab, gymnasium, and music and foreign language rooms.

The Laurel Hill grounds boast an outdoor theatre, a preschool playground, adventure playground, full size playing fields, basketball and tennis courts, a hockey rink, a batting cage, and more.
